Our students come in with such passion about being fashion designers. The creativity is rarely the issue, but they lack the skills to express themselves visually and at NYSD we focus on those skills. Our programs provide students with the hands on experience with applicable industry standards to prepare them to move from the classroom out into the industry.
— James Simon, Instructor & Student Success Advisor at NYSD

NYSD's support services are designed to help you transition from fashion student to industry professional. We will help you develop your portfolio so you can put your best foot forward when applying for jobs. Need specific career advice?  No problem, our career and academic advisors are always available for you.

Our faculty and staff have worked in almost all aspects of the fashion industry for many years. We are well-connected With this experience comes connections from within.  This allows NYSD to place our students in relevant internships and help them meet their goals by connecting them with employers.

Graduating from our Spring '17 Fashion Design and Couture Design Programs, Grace Teye and Yuliya Labovskaya show off their all original garments out on the streets for our editorial photoshoot.

Editorial shoots are an impressive way to have a final project become part of your portfolio.  It allows the students to visually create the story behind their garment.  It is important for the students to learn how to work with a photographer to ensure that their vision is carried out.

Your portfolio is the story of who you are as a designer.  It lets the prospective employer see your skills as well as who you are as a person.  In conjunction with your resume it is your vehicle to employment.  Our advisors will mentor you even after completion of our program to keep these tools current and make sure you are putting your best foot forward.

Our advisors are happy to marry your interests and abilities with an internship that will give you experience working in the global fashion community.  Students at NYSD are given the opportunity to obtain an internship as part of the curriculum and work with an advisor to find a great match. The school’s central location in the garment district provides a wealth of opportunities right out our front door.

We are delighted to connect students with designers through volunteer experience during Fashion Week.  This imparts hands on opportunities behind the scenes at many of the runway shows, as well as fittings and prep beforehand.

This is another way for our students to showcase their designs by being presented in public exhibitions.

Students will have the chance to present their clothing in a runway show upon completion of the program in conjunction with Fashion Week.  This is a fantastic opportunity for students to gain perspective of all aspects of what goes into preparing for a show as well as it being the culmination of all their hard work.

Selected New York School of Design students showed their mini-collections at Nolcha Shows during New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2017.
