There are so many different aspects to the fashion industry.  They all build and support each other. At NYSD, we focus primarily on the technical background needed to construct a garment while simultaneously teaching the creative design process. Our programs provide students the hands on experience they need with applicable industry standards to bridge what they learn in the classroom to the industry.

EDITORIAL SHOOTS

Editorial shoots are an impressive way to have a final project become part of your portfolio.  It allows the students to visually create the story behind their garment.  It is important for the students to learn how to work with a photographer to ensure that their vision is carried out.

PORTFOLIO AND RESUME BUILDING

Your portfolio is the story of who you are as a designer.  It lets the prospective employer see your skills as well as who you are as a person.  In conjunction with your resume it is your vehicle to employment.  Our advisors will mentor you even after completion of our program to keep these tools current and make sure you are putting your best foot forward.

INTERNSHIPS

Our advisors are happy to marry your interests and abilities with an internship that will give you experience working in the global fashion community.  Students at NYSD are given the opportunity to obtain an internship as part of the curriculum and work with an advisor to find a great match. The school’s central location in the garment district provides a wealth of opportunities right out our front door.

VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITIES

We are delighted to connect students with designers through volunteer experience during Fashion Week.  This imparts hands on opportunities behind the scenes at many of the runway shows, as well as fittings and prep beforehand.

STUDENT EXHIBITIONS

This is another way for our students to showcase their designs by being presented in public exhibitions. Our next student exhibition will be on May 11, 2017 during our NYSD Expo Week!

FASHION SHOWS

Students will have the chance to present their clothing in a runway show upon completion of the program in conjunction with Fashion Week.  This is a fantastic opportunity for students to gain perspective of all aspects of what goes into preparing for a show as well as it being the culmination of all their hard work.
