THE FASHION PORTFOLIO PREP PROVIDES A STEPPING STONE TO PROSPECTIVE FASHION DESIGN STUDENTS APPLYING TO TRADITIONAL DEGREE GRANTING FASHION DESIGN PROGRAMS.

The application requirements can be daunting to a student with no experience in fashion design and do not know where to begin. This program will help students gain the skills they need to build a stellar fashion portfolio. They will receive guidance on determining their style, choosing the appropriate fabrics and swatches, illustrating their designs digitally by using applications such as Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, garment construction of a simple skirt, and finally compiling what they’ve learned in a portfolio that will get noticed by admission officers!

Overview

The 1-month Fashion Portfolio Prep, consisting a total of 72 hours, is a 4 part program geared for young adults in middle or high school to give them an introduction to fashion design and an overview of how the fashion industry works.  This program will also provide them with the tools they need to create a portfolio to apply to design school.

WEEK 1

In the first section of the course students will gain some historical knowledge as well as learning about different markets. Fabric is yet another element of fashion design that will be introduced in the beginning. A trip to a fabric store will be included. Then students will begin to learn garment construction and basic sewing through drafting a skirt pattern and sewing one together.

WEEK 2

The second portion of Portfolio Prep is Fashion Drawing. Here they will learn to render the fashion figure and necessary techniques to illustrate fabrics. They will also learn to make hand drawn flats.

WEEK 3

The third component of the program students are introduced to the digital element of fashion design. They will learn the basics of photoshop and illustrator. They will also be taught to create flats on the computer.

WEEK 4

The fourth and final portion of the Portfolio Prep program is to build a portfolio. Your portfolio tells the story of who who are as a designer. Students will learn different techniques to develop both an online and physical Fashion portfolio. They will learn how to organize their portfolio’s contents from mood boards to flats and croquis. This will be their final project that can be used to help them gain entrance to design school
